“A TALK ON CANCER AWARENESS” ORGANISED IN CONTEXT OF WORLD CANCER AWARENESS

The NSS department and Red Ribbon Club of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women,
Jalandhar organised a seminar on “A Talk On Cancer Awareness” organised in context of
world cancer awareness. Dr. Shikha Chawla (HoD, Dept. of Radiation Oncology, Patel
Hospital, Jalandhar) was the guest of honour and the chief speaker for the occasion. Madam
Principal Dr. Navjot welcomed Dr. Shikha and apprised the students about the dynamic
personality of Dr. Shikha. In her talk, Dr. Shikha explained the meaning, causes and
symptoms of cancer and how it has become a perilous issue of concern in India. She
explained its various causes like tobacco, smoking, sedentary life styles, bad eating habits,
irregular checkups etc thereby making the audience aware about the various symptoms and
its types. In this context the speaker also addressed on cervical cancer and explained it. She
expressed that it is of utmost important to go for regular checkups, eat a balanced diet and to
support the cancer patient emotionally and whole heartedly. Dr. Shikha also urged the
students to spread the cancer awareness to their surroundings by talking about its symptoms,
causes and precautions as awareness is the first step to deal with the disease. The audience
expressed and cleared their doubts in the form of various questions and queries. Madam
Principal Dr. Navjot expressed her gratitude to Dr. Shikha and thanked her for sharing her
valuable knowledge with the students and also for sparing her precious time for such a noble
cause. Madam also appreciated the joint efforts of the NSS officers Madam Simarjit Kaur,
Madam Manjit Kaur and Madam Manita.
