Sports

When Leonardo da Vinci created his Vitruvian Man, he showcased how the human form embodies the principals of architecture at its peak of perfection. He also revealed that the body and its abilities are just as vital to intelligence as is the mind. College sports embody this concept: They showcase athletic intelligence alongside academic victories. From better student grades to strong community roots, college sports provide the gears that run universities.

With same motive, Department of Physical Education was established in 1960 under the able guidance of Principal Miss S.K. Avtar Singh and Mrs. Karminder Choudhery as Director Physical Education.

The college is second to none in the sphere of games. It provides extensive arrangement for the physical activities, athletics and sports. Spacious playground exists in the college for the team games like Hockey, Football, Squash, Judo, Kabbadi, Badminton and Athletics. Expert coaches are appointed for the games in which the students show special promise. The names of many of our students shine in the galaxy of national and even inter-national folio. College provides free education, boarding and lodging facilities to the players selected in the wing.

LKCW is known for excellence in sports for the last 5 decades. It has a glorious record of achievements in the field of hockey, basketball, football, kabaddi and athletics. From 1961 to 1969 A and B teams of both hockey and Kho-Kho were the winners as well as runners-up of Punjab University.

From 1961-1970 college bagged overall championships as well as athletic championships. Many players represented India like Ajinder Kaur (Capt. Indian Team), Rajbir Kaur (baby queen of Hockey) (Golden Girl), Chanchal Randhawa, Nisha, Kirandeep,Yogita Bali and Gurjit Kaur.

Physical education was introduced as a subject in 1982 and Mrs. Sukhjinder Kaur joined the department in 1984. After the retirement of Mrs. Karminder Choudhery, Mrs. Sareen joined the department in 1997 as Head of the Department.

During the last 5 years the college has shown an upward graph in the number of teams and there has been a good increase in the number of achievements. GNDU Amritsar recognizes the achievements of those affiliated colleges whose achievements contribute to the winning of Mulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy in sports. It is a matter of great pride that our college is one of the three women colleges whose contribution is always recognized.

Grounds

College have Hockey, Football, Kabaddi, Ball-Badminton,Volley Ball, Badminton, Lawn-Tennis, Table-Tennis, Judo and Wrestling Mats.

The college trains about 50 players in the different discipline. Out of 50, 40 sportswomen from different disciplines are resident students of the hostel and are given totally free boarding and lodging.

All the sports persons are given free education i.e. no fees is charged from them. Besides this, players of all the games are given free kits. Extra refreshment 10 days before the Inter-college tournaments is given to all the players.

At the annual prize distribution function of the college, all the players are honoured and awarded merit certificates and track suits,bags etc.

Indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess, Carom Board and other facilities are also provided to the college students.
