Fashion Designing

The department was started in the year 1992-93 with the aim to promote self employment. The dress designing course was started as tailoring vocational course. Seeing the popularity of the course and keeping in the view the interest of the students, in 1996-97 diploma in dress designing course was started and we got the affiliation from G.N.D.U. the diploma was started with one class PGDDT with one lecturer in 2012. Dr. Kuldeep Kaur Dhaliwal, Principal of our college during year 2012 took the initiative to flourish this department. She started MSc. (Fashion Designing and Merchandising) with two lecturers Kuldeep Kaur and Manpreet Kaur. Since then there has been no looking back. The department began with one lab, but now have seven labs.

The program is curated in a way that allows the students to identify areas of interest within the fashion segments of apparel, textiles and accessories and transition into desired path. The program aims to equip the student with an in-depth understanding of the role of the designer in today’s fashion industry.

The scope of the course is to place the student in a global fashion scenario at the end of the curricular path. They will also be exposed to the importance of accessories that currently occupies a large section of the current global fashion industry. Students during the entire course get hands on experience on how the world fashion system works and evolves.

Our courses emphasis on practical industry oriented training which trains the future fashion leaders to design fashion collections. Stress is laid on the detailed knowledge of the subject, from concept to consumer, including fabric analysis, and productions as gained from research and thematic work.

The courses rely on tracking the evolving trends, norms, cultural dynamics and innovations of the Indian and international Fashion industry. The students will get an opportunity to showcase their collection on the runway. After completion students will be able to work with an eye towards the future trend and will be able to setup up their own design studio or establishing a brand.
